In the wake of the pandemic, we saw a massive increase in the number of people opening up their homes to new pets, especially from rescue centres. According to the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association, more than 2.1 million people collected a new pet in lockdown. People figured that adopting a pet would ease the loneliness of lockdown with a new furry companion. Now, a year on, animal shelters such as RSPCA Leeds and Wakefield are beginning to experience ‘unruly’ pets being handed in by disgruntled owners and many pets are being listed online to be resold. Either way, the centre has had to put great efforts into the management of their centre and the lack of funds raised due to the cancellation of events during the pandemic.

RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch operate within the guidelines and rules established by the national RSPCA, however, they are a separately registered charity. They are self-funded, meaning they rely heavily on donations to continue their services. Any money raised goes towards supporting animals in their local area. Sally Balmforth, Head of Fundraising & Communications approached us to ask for some fundraising items for their first event since lockdown began. Having had a difficult 18 months they had little funds to spend on merchandise and asked where we could help. We were more than happy to assist.
